Recently, I felt myself dragging my many bags on the ground and being so hunched over that I couldn't even see in front of me. The weight began to literally take over my body and I wasn't physically able to hold all my bags any longer. Mentally, maybe I could have kept it together but our human bodies are only able to handle so much and that is how God intended it to be.When we live our lives this way and carry everything on our own backs...we grow weary, exhausted, cynical and scared of anything else we may have to find a way to carry even though our hands are completely full already. The fear becomes just as heavy as the bags we carry. God never intended us to carry the weight of the world on our own and he created us with physical and mental breaking points to remind us to look to Him for what we need in this world.
I believe we are bought to important points in our lives when we can choose our way or His way. I recently came to a point like that and I dropped my bags and ran to Him. Picture this in your mind of someone literally dropping every bag they were carrying with no care for contents spilling out, items being broken or someone stealing the bags all together. Once they hit the ground the person breaks out into a total sprint towards Jesus. I felt the Lord saying, "Drop it and run to me." Then it was clear that I needed to drop it ALL and run. What total freedom it felt to totally drop my baggage, leave it behind and run to the loving arms of my Jesus.
"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith" Hebrews 12: 1-2
I love this scripture because it give us full permission to "throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles" and run. Notice that it doesn't say that we should run away from everything...we should first of all, run with perseverance and we need to run the race marked out for us by Jesus. And finally we need to be "fixing our eyes on Jesus" which is the most important part of all.
I challenge you to let go of what you are carrying. It is heavy and will drag you farther and farther down towards the ground if you don't let it go. And when you do let it go...run...really run towards Jesus.
